Thanks David!
I see that the mechanism for transmission is loose in the 103 while it is all one piece in the 9000. Also see that the chassis, where the motor is set is 3mm closer to the front wheels in the 9000. This definitely would hamper modifying the 9000 chassis to the proper length for the F59PHI. But I also see there are running characteristics between the two mechanisms too. Does the 9000 run slower or smoother, or both compared to the 103?
I went to the T-gauge forum link you posted and spent quite a bit of time there but mainly looking for anything mentioning modern US. The boxcars and gondolas were nice. The 3D of the rollerbearing truck was cool too. I also saw where others were proposing to make bombadiers and F59PHI locos, but posts were a year old or older with no other entries. Did they loose interest or fail at their attempts? I guess I'll never know!
To your knowledge, has anyone made modern US locos by modifying one of these little buggars?
Thanks David!

The 9000s do run better than the 103s. Not much slower, but smoother and more reliably. Performance among 103s is highly variable, and includes units that won't run at all.
As for what others are doing about modern NA rolling stock, why not join TTG and re-stimulate some of the discussions? To be honest, there's a lot more going on over there.
